There are so many scams on the internet so I understand if you are looking for safe online business opportunities which you can be sure are leading you in the right direction and at least to some sort of success without the lies, fake promises and unrealistic expectations.

Chances are, you have already spent money on some of the make money online products and courses or got involved with one of the thousands of online business opportunities promoted online. The hype sales pages promise you instant money from commissions coming into your bank account while you spend the time doing things you like, lying on the beach drinking a cocktail of your choice, an internet business in a box, push button, just copy and paste, type way to make money with hardly any work involved.

Unfortunately it's getting worse and the number of these types of products is growing daily. There are millions of people who are trying to make extra money online and are falling for these scams. Some will argue that these programs and products are not scams but if you use the criteria of what value is offered to the buyer and what is actually promised in the sales letter or sales video, then most of these online business opportunities are scams.

So what can you do to avoid paying or joining an online business opportunity that will just cost you money or more importantly your time and the risk that you will invest your resources, using outdated techniques and practices which could actually be harmful to your credibility or your success? Here are some important things to consider when searching for safe online business opportunities.

Only consider spending your money with someone who stands openly in front of the offer with their name, real proof of why you should trust him or her. Make sure that when you find out their name to search them in Google and at least look up if they are actually a real person. They should have their personal website, be on places like Linkedin, published something of value and have a positive footprint.

If there is a gorgeous young woman, a hired actress pitching an easy way to riches with a one shoe fits all approach that anyone can do with no experience or website needed, no technical skills needed, no writing needed, then just walk away and don't even bother to look into it. Just remember or write down the website address so you can avoid it in the future but best is to ignore it.

If there are amazing promises of unbelievable earnings and screenshots of those earnings of a zillion dollars and x amount of cents with a lot of mansions, million dollar yachts and offcourse the absolute must of all scam sales pages, a latest model red Ferrari, to mention a few, then just use your mouse productively and get out. This brings me to the next point.

If you've started watching the sales video or sales page and you are not sure about whether to trust this guy, if you click to close the page and get another page asking you to stay on the page for a Special Offer with a discount offered, you try to close it again and there is another discount and another, that is a sure sign that the value of that product is just as low as the discounts on offer. Again not worth wasting your time with that either.

I would recommend that you work on getting real skills and proficiencies first. It is important to first gain the basic knowledge of how things work on the internet. The subject is huge to talk about in this article but understanding the process of owning and hosting your website, content creation, search engine optimization, writing sales copy, traffic generation and many other links in the chain is a start.

However, this general knowledge is just the beginning. You must acquire skills which will enable you to do research and choose your field, register your domain, host your site, know how to optimize your site, add content to it, learn how to drive free and paid traffic , how to monetize your content and so on.

You need to be good at basics before you can go on and achieve great success and. Learn to walk before you can start thinking of participating in the World Athletics Championship.

The problem is people don't want to put in the hard work and gain the necessary skills which are a must to succeed at anything, rather they keep searching for an easy push button solutions and go from one opportunity to another.

The real diamond of information you can take with you from my article here, in my opinion, is that you need to concentrate on getting real online skills. You need to be able to do things like log into your website, change anything you want to it, add more content or change your links and banner ads for example without relying on someone to do that for you. You need to know the technical part of building a list and writing copy.

Believe me, all that requires a lot of work, meaning time which we all in this age have in limited quantities. Here is a thought I'll leave you with regarding safe online business opportunities. There is no such thing as, completely "safe", which is especially true when talking about business in general.

After saying all that, if you have at least some of the skills mentioned here, it will be easy for you to choose safe online business opportunities and work on building a business and not waste your precious time chasing one business opportunity after another.

Online dating service Cupid rejects claims it used fake profiles

(Reuters) - British online dating company Cupid Plc rejected as "misrepresentation and ill-informed speculation" media allegations about its methods to encourage people to buy subscriptions, sending its shares up as much as 79 percent.

The BBC said last month that members of Cupid's online dating services suspected fake "flirtatious" messages had been used to encourage free users to sign up for paid subscriptions.

The firm's websites, cupid.com and flirt.com, allow people to register for free, but they must buy a subscription to reply to messages.

The company said on Friday it had launched an investigation into "a report" about its methods, but a spokeswoman said then that this was not in response to the allegations in the BBC report.

The Edinburgh-based company's shares fell 60 percent on Friday in response to the statement. Up to Friday's close, the stock had fallen 64 percent since the BBC report on February 24.

Ukraine newspaper Kyiv Post published an article on March 15 that said Cupid had hired "motivation managers" to encourage people to buy full subscriptions.

Responding to what it said were "recent comments and market speculation", Cupid said on Monday that the managers' job was to monitor and interrogate its websites to detect technical or product issues and to moderate chat rooms and forums. They do not communicate with free members, it said.

"... Cupid Plc strongly refutes all allegations that its business model or practices and procedures are in any way fundamentally flawed, inappropriate or illegal," it said.

The company, which said it was taking legal advice on the media and allegations, also denied that it was profiting from telephone numbers used to cancel some subscriptions, saying that it operated toll-free numbers for callers from the United States and Australia and had a low-cost number in the UK.

Cupid's website says it has more than 54 million user accounts in 58 countries.

Cupid's shares were up 57 percent at 77 pence at 0934 GMT on the London Stock Exchange.

Asus Direct CU II Radeon HD 7790

The Asus Direct CU II Radeon HD 7790 is a new mainstream graphics card based on AMD's Bonaire GPU. Bonaire is a new chip?the other two members of the HD 7700 family, the 7750 and 7770 use a graphics core known as Cape Verde?but it's not a new architecture. Bonaire uses the same Graphics Core Next architecture that powers the rest of the HD Radeon 7700 to 7900 cards. It's rare for a company to re-spin a budget GPU on the same architecture and process technology. According to AMD, there was a performance gap between the 7800 and 7700 product families that HD 7790 is meant to address. At present, the HD 7770 GHz Edition family of cards starts at roughly $109, while HD 7850 cards are around $179. With a $149 base, the HD 7790 is meant to drop neatly in between these two cards.

Design and Features

The HD 7790 has 40% more stream processors (896 vs. 640) and texture units (56 vs. 40) than the HD 7770. It can handle two primitives per clock instead of the 7770's one, which doubles the card's potential geometry throughput. The total number of raster operator units (ROPs), however, remains steady at 16. That puts a hard limit on the card's pixel fillrate, which remains capped 16 gigapixels (GP) per second.

The 7790's other major improvement over the HD 7770 is its memory bandwidth. Both cards use a 128-bit memory interface, but the HD 7790 ratchets up its memory clock to a blistering 1500MHz (6GHz effective data rate). Total bandwidth is 96GBps, up from the HD 7770's 72GBps.

The other new feature of the HD 7790 is the card's enhanced overclocking technology (AMD PowerTune). Previous HD 7700 to HD 7900 cards have had four distinct states, each with a different clock speed, voltage, and power consumption target. The HD 7790 has eight states and switches between them more quickly. Unlike Nvidia, which recently switched to temperature-based overclocking with the GTX Titan video card, AMD's new PowerTune tech is still based on TDP.

That's the new GPU in general. The specific card we've tested is the Asus DirectCU Radeon 7790 GPU with 1GB of RAM (AMD says to expect a mixture of 1GB and 2GB cards on the market). The card ships with a default 1,075MHz clock, which is a tad higher than the 1GHz AMD specifies. Memory clock speeds are also higher, at 1600MHz (6.4GHz effective clock rate). The DirectCU II OC uses a dual-fan design with a heatsink + fan configuration that's actually longer than the card it covers. Up to four displays are supported (HDMI, 2x DVI, and DisplayPort).

We tested the card on an Intel DZ77GA-70K motherboard with an Intel 3770K CPU and 8GB of DDR3-1600. Windows 7 64-bit w/ SP1 and all available patches was used.

Asus Direct CU II Radeon HD 7790

Performance
Since AMD decided to launch the HD 7790 on extremely short notice, we've got fewer test results than we'd otherwise prefer, and they're split between the HD 7770 and the Nvidia GTX 660. The GTX 660 isn't Nvidia's comparable product in this market; the cheapest card at NewEgg is $214. That's well into HD 7850 / HD 7870 territory and $65 above the HD 7790's $149 MSRP. Our Nvidia figures, therefore, will be presented for reference only.

Our first set of benchmark tests, in older titles, show that the HD 7790 is a worthy upgrade to the HD 7770. Aliens vs. Predator, DiRT 3, and Just Cause 2 were all btest at 1,680-by-1,050 resolution with all details set to maximum. The first two titles include their own benchmark utilities; our Just Cause 2 test used the "Concrete Jungle" benchmark map. The HD 7790 is 26% faster in Alien vs. Predator (32.8 fps vs. 26.1 fps) and 40% faster in DiRT 3. (64.7 fps vs 42.6 fps). In Just Cause 2, the Asus Direct CU II 7790 hit 43.23 FPS compared to 29.9 FPS for the standard HD 7770?a gain of over 40%.

The gap between the Nvidia GTX 660 and HD 7790 at 1,920-by-1,080 and in newer titles is still significant. In Civilization V's Late Game View benchmark, the GTX 660 hit 70fps vs. 58.6fps. Other titles, like Batman: Arkham City, Shogun 2, and Metro 2033 favored the GTX 660 by 50-70%. Then again, the cheapest GTX 660 is 1.43 times as expensive as the HD 7790.

Performance-wise, the HD 7790 is a clear improvement over the AMD HD 7770. Its overall value proposition, however, is less clear. AMD has set a baseline price of $149 for 1GB configurations?but HD 7850 2GB cards are available on NewEgg starting at $182. In this case, the extra $32 buys twice the RAM, 50% more memory bandwidth, and a higher pixel fill rate.

AMD intends to sweeten the deal by offering a free copy of Bioshock Infinite to new buyers as part of the Never Settle bundle, and that's a fairly enticing carrot. Asus's Direct CU dual-fan design keeps the HD 7790 running quietly, and there's some nice headroom in the GPU?we were able to increase the GPU clock to 1200MHz without touching the card's voltage and a modest voltage tap let the GPU hit 1275MHz while keeping temperatures below 65C.

The one fly in the ointment is how prices will settle out. If you've been eyeing an AMD HD 7770 at $100, but can afford to stretch a bit, the Asus Direct CU II Radeon HD 7790 is a nice deal at $150. If, on the other hand, you've been eyeing the $150 price point, the $185 AMD HD 7850 is still a better bet?$35 buys a hefty chunk of additional GPU power and the 2GB frame buffer is a nice bit of insulation against next-generation games with hungry VRAM requirements.

(AP) ? Police in Georgia say an anonymous tip helped them make arrests in the shooting death of baby who was killed in a stroller.

The Brunswick Police Department said Sunday that they got a tip that someone was crouched in the back seat of a vehicle as it drove away from the shooting on Thursday. The Glynn County detective's division spent hours following up on the tip and eventually arrested a 14-year-old suspect. The boy's statements led them to take 17-year-old De'Marquise Elkins into custody.

Elkins is charged with murder in the death of 13-month-old Antonio Santiago. The baby's mother, Sherry West, said she was walking home when Elkins and a younger boy approached and asked her for money.

Elkins' family says he did not shoot the baby.

Top China college in focus with ties to army?s cyber-spying unit

SHANGHAI (Reuters) ? Faculty members at a top Chinese university have collaborated for years on technical research papers with a People?s Liberation Army (PLA) unit accused of being at the heart of China?s alleged cyber-war against Western commercial targets.

Several papers on computer network security and intrusion detection, easily accessed on the Internet, were co-authored by researchers at PLA Unit 61398, allegedly an operational unit actively engaged in cyber-espionage, and faculty at Shanghai Jiaotong University, a centre of academic excellence with ties to some of the world?s top universities and attended by the country?s political and business elite.

The apparent working relationship between the PLA unit and Shanghai Jiaotong is in contrast to common practice in most developed nations, where university professors in recent decades have been reluctant to cooperate with operational intelligence gathering units.

The issue of cyber-security is testing ties between the world?s two biggest economies, prompting U.S. President Barack Obama to raise concerns over computer hacking in a phone call with new Chinese President Xi Jinping. China denies it engages in state-sponsored hacking, saying it is a victim of cyber-attacks from the United States.

There is no evidence to suggest any Shanghai Jiaotong academics who co-authored papers with Unit 61398 worked with anyone directly engaged in cyber-espionage operations, as opposed to research.

?The issue is operational activity ? whether these research institutions have been involved in actual intelligence operations,? said James Lewis, director of the Technology and Public Policy Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. ?That?s something the U.S. does not do.?

?(In the U.S.) there?s a clear line between an academic researcher and people engaged in operational (intelligence gathering) activities.?

Shanghai Jiaotong declined to comment.

CO-AUTHORS

In reviewing the links between the PLA and Shanghai Jiaotong ? whose alumni include former President Jiang Zemin, the head of China?s top automaker and the former CEO of its most popular Internal portal ? Reuters found at least three papers on cyber- warfare on a document-sharing web site that were co-authored by university faculty members and PLA researchers.

The papers, on network security and attack detection, state on their title pages they were written by Unit 61398 researchers and professors at Shanghai Jiaotong?s School of Information Security Engineering (SISE).

In one 2007 paper on how to improve security by designing a collaborative network monitoring system, PLA researcher Chen Yi-qun worked with Xue Zhi, the vice-president of SISE and the school?s Communist Party branch secretary. According to his biography on the school?s website, Xue is credited with developing China?s leading infiltrative cyber-attack platform.

Calls and emails to Xue were not answered. Reuters was unable to find contact details for Chen.

Fan Lei, an associate professor at Shanghai Jiaotong whose main research areas are network security management and cryptography, also co-authored a paper with Chen. Fan told Reuters he has no links with Unit 61398 and his work with Chen in 2010 was because Chen was a SISE graduate student. Fan said he was unaware Chen was with the PLA when they collaborated. Both of the papers Chen co-wrote with SISE professors stated he was with the PLA unit.

Cyber-security experts say the publicly available papers and China?s National Information Security Engineering Centre are ostensibly about securing computer networks.

?The research seems to be defensive, but cyber-security research in general can be dual purpose,? said Adam Meyers, director of intelligence at CrowdStrike, a security technology company based in Irvine, California. Figuring out how best to defend networks, by definition, means thinking about the most effective means of attack, he noted.

Efforts to reach the PLA for comment on its collaboration with Shanghai Jiaotong were unsuccessful.

TECH PARK NEIGHBORS

Set amid manicured lawns, Shanghai Jiaotong University is one of China?s top four colleges, turning out brilliant technical engineers much in demand by both domestic companies and foreign multinationals. Its reputation has led to tie-ups with elite universities abroad.

Last month, Mandiant Corp, a private U.S.-based security firm, accused China?s military of cyber-espionage on U.S. and other English-speaking companies, identifying Unit 61398 and its location at a building on the outskirts of Shanghai. China said the report was baseless and lacked ?technical proof?.

?SISE at Shanghai Jiaotong has provided support? to PLA Unit 61398 ? known more formally as General Staff Department (GSD), Third Department, Second Bureau ? said Russell Hsiao, author of papers on China?s cyber-warfare capabilities for Project 2049 Institute, a Virginia-based think-tank, who drew his research from the technical papers and government reports.

He said another Shanghai Jiaotong department, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, also did research work with another PLA unit. A Project 2049 report last year found the GSD?s Third Department had oversight of ?information security engineering bases? in Shanghai, Beijing and Tianjin.

The GSD Third Department?s Shanghai base is in an industrial park housing mainly government research institutes and high-tech firms. The SISE building is in the same development, 40 kms from the university?s main Minhang campus. Across the street from SISE is the National Information Security Engineering Center, a building commissioned in 2003 by PLA Unit 61398. Also part of the base is the Ministry of Public Security?s Third Research Institute, which researches digital forensics and network security.

AUTO RESEARCH

Shanghai Jiaotong is not officially linked to China?s military. SISE says on its website its goal is to speed up the development of China?s information security sector and address the national shortage of information security professionals.

Shanghai Jiaotong set up a joint institute in China?s second city in 2006 with the University of Michigan ? seeking, it says on its web site, to ?develop innovative and highly reputable education and research programs in various engineering fields.? A spokesman for the U.S. college said it has no relationship with SISE. Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh also had a partnership with Shanghai Jiaotong?s School of Electronic, Information and Electrical Engineering, and Singapore Management University said it ended a tie-up with SISE last June.

Among the industries in the United States allegedly targeted by Unit 61398, as recently as last year according to Mandiant, is transportation, including the auto sector.

The University of Michigan collaborates closely with Detroit-based automakers on research projects, and is one of three colleges that comprise the University Research Corridor, which spent $300 million on R&D projects over the last five years. Nearly a third of that was funded by private industry, according to local consultant the Anderson Economic Group.

?There was no indication in 2010 that the joint institute was involved in any way and that also is the case today. We do, of course, watch the news reports on these issues carefully,? said Rick Fitzgerald, a University of Michigan spokesman, referring to a New York Times report in 2010 citing investigators? claims to have tracked cyber-attacks against Google Inc (GOOG.O) to Shanghai Jiaotong and an eastern Chinese vocational school. Teenage cancer deaths cut to half of what they were in the 1970s ...

By Agence France-Presse
Monday, March 25, 2013 7:17 EDT

?

Almost half as many teenagers and young adults are dying from cancer today as did in the 1970s, according to a report from Cancer Research UK published Monday.

Deaths between 2008-2010 in this age group were around 300 a year, down from 580 a year in the period 1975-1977.

The largest improvement was in those diagnosed with leukaemia with more specialised treatments believed to be behind the drop, said the report, ?Cancer Statistics Report: Teenage and Young Adult Cancer.?

The study revealed that around 2,100 people aged 15-24 years old are diagnosed with cancer each year in Britain.

?It?s fantastic to see such a fall in the number of young people dying from some types of cancers during this time,? said Simon Davies, chief executive of Teenage Cancer Trust.

?However, many of the rarer cancers which affect young people like sarcomas have made little or no progress.

?More investment in rare cancer research is urgently needed,? he warned.
